Check-Outs: Students may check out 3 items at a time for one week. Books may be renewed or exchanged during regularly scheduled weekly classes, or during independent or open check-out times in the library. Books may be renewed as needed unless another student is awaiting use of the material. 

Community Accounts: Parents may establish a library account and check out materials to read to or with their children at home.

Parent Restrictions on Student Choices: Some parents or guardians may consider some materials in any given collection objectionable for their children. To address this concern, parents have the opportunity to provide an author or title - specific restriction message to their individual student's teacher and librarian for entry into the computerized check-out system. If the system is used to check out any book, a "note" marker is visible on the screen. This cannot guarantee that a book will not be checked out by or to the student, but a good faith effort will be made to comply with parental wishes. If you wish to place a restraint on your child’s record for checking out certain books, please drop me a note via e-mail, or through your classroom teacher.

Our print and digital library contains a variety of books and resources – from graphic novels (comic stories) to genre fiction and terrific nonfiction. Reading is critically important to student success – and it all starts with the right book. Not finding a great book? Please recommend! We want our collection to intrigue and engage our kids.  

MS Collection: The Northern Lights MS collection is similar to other ASD MS collections, and is available for 6^th – 8^th graders without specific permissions along with the books in the general collection. You can digitally browse our MS collection by visiting the and then looking under “Special Collection”. In our print library, the MS fiction books are shelved by genre/Dewey next to the teaching area under the dragon board. You are welcome to come in and browse or electronically browse the shelves to see the differences between the general and MS titles. NLABC students also have access to the ASD Digital K-12 library, and many of you have given your students access to books for all ages of readers through the public library (a choice made during registration). I am excited that students have so many choices, and appreciate that you engage with your students as they select books to read.
